Flying Home (2011)

Walter Otto Wyss emigrates after a tragic car accident in Zurich in 1939 into the USA. In America he designs a revolutionary hybrid car, which stays a prototype. After having a love relationship with the Afro-American dancer Martinique in Los Angeles, he leaves for Japan to obsessively study the Japanese language. The last 30 years of his life Walter spends in Honolulu. Despite many opportunities to achieve his dream of freedom, success, and happiness, Walter Otto Wyss was not able to set himself free from his mother, his homeland and his heavy guilt. Walter‘s nephew, the director Tobias Wyss, tells the story of his uncle from his personal point of view and reveals touching photos and videos which were hidden in the family archive.
