L'avenir vertelt het verhaal van een vrouw die, nadat ze de 50 gepasseerd is, wordt getroffen door een aantal tegenslagen. Haar man is vreemdgegaan, ze is ontslagen van haar werk en haar moeder is onlangs overleden. Maar ondanks deze nare gebeurtenissen laat ze zich niet klein krijgen.
