De schlemielige Seymour Krelboin (Jonathan Haze) werkt in een bloemenwinkel, waar hij, zonder dat hij het weet, een intelligente plant cultiveert. Seymour noemt de plant ‘Audrey Junior’, naar zijn vriendin Audrey (Jackie Joseph). Er zit echter één minpuntje aan ‘Audrey Junior’, ze voedt zich met mensenvlees! Sterker nog: de plant vráágt om mensenvlees, ze zegt “Feed Me! FEED ME!”. Een kleine maar geniale bijrol wordt vertolkt door ‘ster-in-wording’ Jack Nicholson.
