In de weken voorafgaand aan de totale nederlaag in WO II stuit Herold, een deserteur uit het Duitse leger, op een achtergelaten uniform van een nazi-kapitein. Hij ontdekt dat veel Duitsers de man in het uniform volgen, wie het ook draagt.
