Dog woont in Manhattan en hij is het beu om alleen te zijn. Op een dag besluit hij een robot, een metgezel, voor zichzelf te bouwen. Hun vriendschap bloeit, totdat ze onafscheidelijk worden, op het ritme van New York uit de jaren 80. Op een zomeravond wordt Dog met groot verdriet gedwongen Robot op het strand achter te laten.
