Jason, een rustige cameraman, droomt ervan om zijn eerste horrorfilm te regisseren. Bob Marshal, een rijke producent, wil zijn film wel financieren, maar op één voorwaarde: Jason krijgt 48 uur om de perfecte schreeuw uit de filmgeschiedenis te vinden. Tijdens zijn zoektocht raakt Jason langzaam verloren in een nachtmerrie.
