Flo is twaalf jaar oud en Lassie is zijn beste vriend. Sinds hij zich kan herinneren, hebben hij en zijn loyale hond altijd in een rustig dorp in Zuid-Duitsland gewoond. Op een dag verliest Florian's vader Andreas echter zijn baan, wat betekent dat het gezin moet verhuizen naar een kleiner appartement waar Lassie niet meer kan wonen omdat honden daar niet zijn toegestaan. Flo’s hart is gebroken. De Schotse herdershond vindt een nieuw thuis bij Graf von Sprengel, die onmiddellijk op weg gaat op vakantie naar de Noordzee met Lassie en zijn kleindochter Priscilla. Maar daar wordt Lassie niet goed behandeld door zijn verzorger...
