Julius Schmitke est un ingénieur senior d’une usine en Allemagne. Peu passionné par son travail, il mène une vie solitaire. Un jour, son patron l’envoie dans les Monts Métallifères tchèques pour réparer une éolienne qui grince de façon inexpliquée… Accompagné de son jeune collègue fantasque, Julius atterrit dans une campagne brumeuse aux habitants étranges. Puis, son compagnon de route disparaît mystérieusement…
