Marya et Stephan, jeune couple boheme, vivent dans l'insouciance du Montparnasse des annees 20. Jusqu'au jour ou Stephan se fait arreter pour recel d'oeuvres d'art. Marya est alors recueillie par un couple de mecenes anglais, bien connu des milieux artistiques.
