À New York, un mystérieux homme défiguré blesse Alex, un inspecteur de police lancé à ses trousses. Immobilisé à l’hôpital, Alex fait la rencontre de Léo, un garçon de onze ans qui possède la faculté de sortir de son corps. Comme un fantôme, invisible de tous, il s’envole et passe à travers les murs. Le gangster défiguré menace la ville avec un virus informatique.
