Alexander Maier est directeur financier d'un fabriquant de pièces automobiles. Il assiste à l'arrivée d'un nouveau PDG dont il commence rapidement à se méfier. Les deux hommes ne tardent pas à s'opposer sur la stratégie à suivre et, lorsqu'un introduction en bourse échoue, Maier se retrouve pointé du doigt.
