Alors qu'un tueur en serie terrorise la ville, Martin, etudiant en droit, accepte un poste de veilleur de nuit a la morgue. Seul dans cet endroit desert ou se produisent des evenements singuliers et ou rodent des personnages etranges, Martin Bells fait bientot figure de suspect numero un aux yeux de l'inspecteur Gray, charge de l'enquete. Pris dans un piege qui le depasse, le jeune homme comprend qu'il lui faut demasquer le tueur pour ne pas devenir sa prochaine victime.
