Les inspecteurs Leroux et Pélissier enquêtent chez la propriètaire d'une galerie d'art contemporain, Hélène Duvernet, soupçonnée d'être mêlée à un trafic de tableaux volés. Pélissier ne la croit pas impliquée tandis que Leroux à la fois intrigué et attiré par la jeune femme, la suit partout et en tombe amoureux. Il finit par la prendre ne flagrant délit et lorque son amant meurt accidentellement, il l'aide à se débarasser de son corps.
