The Virgin, the Copts and Me
La Vierge, les Coptes et Moi (original)
Namir is a French filmmaker of Egyptian origin who returns to Egypt to make a film about the miraculous apparitions of the Virgin Mary among the Christian Copt communuity. Like his mother says, "there are people who see her and there are people who don't. Perhaps there is a message in this." The investigation quickly becomes a pretext for seeing his distant family once again and for implicating the whole village in an incredible venture... Between documentary and autobiographical fiction, this is a terrific comedy about roots, beliefs... and the movies.
