Beim Versuch Texas im Jahre 1849 zu kolonialisieren, wird dabei die mexikanische Bevölkerung vertrieben. Auch die beiden Familien Iturraldes und Villareals beginnen zu streiten, nachdem sie sich geweigert haben, ihre Ranch an die MacKenzies zu verkaufen. Der irische Clan schreckt nämlich vor nichts zurück, um seine Ziele zu erreichen, und sie wollen um jeden Preis das Erdöl, das tief in der Erde vergraben ist.
