Als Helen Kimmel ermordet aufgefunden wird, fällt der Verdacht auf ihren Mann, den Buchhändler. Doch Kimmel hat ein Alibi. Während des Mordes befand er sich laut einer Zeugenaussage im Kino. Die Sache wird schon fast zu den Akten gelegt, da geschieht ein weiterer Mord.
