After the Wedding
Efter brylluppet (original)
Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen) works at a Bombay orphanage in dire financial straights. After two decades he returns to his native Denmark to pursue a potential donation from Jorgen (Rolf Lassgard), a wealthy entrepreneur. In Copenhagen, Jacob is invited to the wedding of Jorgen’s favorite daughter; at the ceremony Jacob unwittingly walks headlong into his past. Susanne Bier and Anders Thomas Jensen developed the story as a natural extension of their previous collaborations, the acclaimed OPEN HEARTS and BROTHERS. “Rich, intricate and very gripping. A kind of treat we are only rarely offered these days’ -Schickel, Time "Bier's epic. Enough twist and turns to fill four weepies. She invests energy and genuine invention in almost every shot… Mads Mikkelsen…here displays the self-conscious jitter of the young Pacino” -Nelson, Voice "Compelling…Serves it up straight, no chaser and dares anyone to flinch. Couldn’t be more illuminating or more dramatic” -Turan, LA Times
