Four days post-robbery, Home Secretary Brooke appoints Flying Squad Chief Tommy Butler to lead the case. Despite being a loner, Butler forms a strong team with Inspector Frank Williams and Sergeant Jack Slipper. They uncover stolen notes, make arrests, and gather crucial forensic evidence. Despite hoax calls, the team closes in on the robbers. In January 1964, most are tried and given lengthy sentences. Butler, nearing retirement, stays on and finally captures Bruce Reynolds three years later.

After a failed 1962 Heathrow heist, Bruce Reynolds, defying his wifes pleas, targets the Glasgow to Euston mail train rumored to hold a million pounds. An anonymous tip shapes his plan: stopping the train with fake signals at a remote crossing. The heist on August 8, 1963, turns violent, injuring driver Jack Mills. Despite an unexpected haul, setbacks arise, and Reynolds soon realizes hes a suspect as headlines expose the massive robbery.
