De Vrouw in de Kooi

After a shoot-out that leaves his one partner dead and the other paralyzed, Deputy Crime Commissioner Carl Mørck is forced to lead the newly established Department Q, a department for unsolved cases. Only Mørck and his new assistant, Assad, are in the department. Although they receive explicit orders to only organize and read the cases, only one day passes before Carl's stubborn nature pulls them into the mystery of Merete Lynggaard, a well-liked and ambitious politician who disappeared from a ferry five years ago. The only witness to the mystery is her brain-damaged brother, who is found screaming on the car deck. The case is dismissed as a presumed suicide. However, this explanation does not convince Carl and Assad, and they embark on a journey that throws them into the darkest corners of society and on the trail of a calculating and twisted mind.
