Asturias, principios del siglo XX. Don Rodrigo de Arista Potestad, Conde de Albrit, Señor de Jerusa y de Polán, creía saber qué era el honor. Hasta que regresó de América viejo, casi ciego y arruinado. A su llegada descubre un amargo secreto: una de sus dos nietas -Nelly y Dolly- es ilegítima, no lleva la sangre noble de su familia.
