Angélique is het hof van de koning ontsnapt en reist naar de Middellandse Zee om haar echtgenoot Peyrac terug te vinden. Om aan de barbaarse zeerovers te ontkomen, springt zij van boord als de galei waarmee zei reist wordt aangevallen. Zij wordt uit zee gered door een driemaster waarop d'Escrainville het bevel voert. Als Angélique zich verzet tegen zijn avances wordt hij woedend en laat haar als slavin verkopen. Tot haar onbeschrijfelijke geluk blijkt dat degene die haar heeft laten kopen haar echtgenoot is. Zullen zij nu eindelijk het geluk hebben gevonden ?
