Un grupo de mariachis cuyo apogeo fue hace 30 años recibe una invitación para participar en el concurso nacional en la Ciudad de México. Ante la falta de un elemento que toque la trompeta, intentarán convencer al hijo de uno de ellos de unirse al conjunto de nueva cuenta, mientras experimentan desventuras durante el trayecto.
