In Germania per un reportage, il giornalista Albin Mercier viene ospitato da un celebre scrittore, Andreas Hartman, e da sua moglie, Hélène. L'armonia che regna nella coppia suscita la gelosia di Albin, il quale, prima cerca inutilmente di conquistare la donna, e poi, scopertane l'infedeltà coniugale, rivela tutto al marito. Sconvolto, Andreas strangola la moglie e si costituisce.
