Berlino, 1936: Solomon Sorowitsch è considerato il Re dei falsari, un vero e proprio artista della riproduzione di banconote e documenti falsi. Mandato nel campo di concentramento di Mathausen, e successivamente a Sachsenhausen, ritrova Herzog, l'ispettore che lo aveva arrestato. L'uomo incarica Solomon ed altri prigionieri di falsificare banconote inglesi e americane, nel tentativo di mettere in ginocchio l'economia dei paesi nemici, in cambio di un trattamento di favore.
