Steve Judd è un ex avventuriero e anziano sceriffo incaricato di scortare un carico d'oro. Prima di partire incontra un suo vecchio amico, Gil Westrum, a cui chiede aiuto; a loro si unisce subito dopo anche il giovane Heck Longthree.
