Il piccolo Piel è rimasto orfano in seguito a un incidente sul pianeta Perdide. Il padre, prima di morire, gli ha affidato un ricevitore radio che chiama Mike e con cui può dialogare con l'equipaggio di un'astronave che cambia rotta per andare a salvarlo e il cui comandante è Jaffar. Dopo varie avventure e pericoli, l'equipaggio incontrerà dei colonizzatori chiamati "maestri del tempo".
