Siamo nel 1999: dopo una bravata, l'adolescente Tomas viene mandato da sua madre a vivere con il fratello Fede, a Città del Messico. Questi, che vive in un prefabbricato con l'amico Santos, si dedica all'organizzazione degli scioperi universitari; Tomas gli porta una cassetta appartenente al padre, con la musica del cantante rock messicano Epigmenio Cruz. I tre, appassionatisi alla musica di Cruz, scoprono che l'artista è in ospedale: decidono così di mettersi in viaggio per andare a rendergli omaggio.
