Il film ripercorre la sua vita, dalla nascita a Il Cairo il 17 gennaio 1933, passando dai successi negli anni sessanta e settanta, fino alla sua morte avvenuta per suicidio nella sua casa di Montmartre a Parigi il 3 maggio 1987.
