Gaëtan Le Sentencier, procureur récemment à la retraite, a bien du mal à accepter d’abandonner ses anciennes fonctions. Parti pour une cure avec sa femme, il est contraint de faire halte dans un hôtel pour y passer la nuit. Mais l'établissement sert de repaire à une bande de petits truands, dont Le Sentencier va rapidement devenir le chef pour mieux les remettre dans le droit chemin.
