On the day of the most important bout of his life, Leonel Reina, a young Latino boxer raised in the United States, is arrested and deported. Lost in Mexico City and unable to speak the language, Leonel embarks on a desperate journey to prove he’s an American citizen so he can return home. But it won’t be easy because — unbeknownst to him — he was never naturalized as an American citizen. Stranded in a picturesque but alien world, Leonel reconnects with his roots and falls in love with Miss Meche, a teacher from the neighborhood. She and his new friends help him fulfill his dream of becoming a champion and finding his way back home.
