Viva la Mexico! It's freezing cold in New York City and the "Marie Claire" staffers (including the interns!) are itching to be picked to be part of a special swimwear shoot in Mexico. As the team scrambles to prepare to go international, both Samantha and Ashley are offered the chance to come along and prove their worth. But as the pressure mounts and their tasks grow harder, the interns find themselves struggling to meet the staff's requests. Meanwhile, Talita finds herself as the lone intern in the office and gets some important alone time with Joanna. Will it be just what she needs to get ahead? Finally, the interns receive their final evaluations from Joanna and say their goodbyes to one another. But the most important question is, will any of them actually be offered their dream job at "Marie Claire?"

The pressure is on as the magazine's staff prepares for its "classics with a twist" shoot with celebrity photographer Kelly Klein. But the shoot comes to a screeching halt when Joanna discovers that Zanna is planning to feature a $25,000 bag and a $2,500 pink pencil skirt. Concerned about featuring such costly items during a down time in the economy, Joanna orders her editors to find more affordable options at the last minute, only adding more stress to the picture. Meanwhile, Samantha's boyfriend Kenny comes to town and Lucy assigns the interns to write stories for their sex diaries column. When Talita decides to write about one of her own personal experiences, Ashley turns to one of her gay friends to share some racy stories--but will it be a good fit for "Marie Claire?"

During the midpoint of their internships, Joanna and Lucy tell Ashley, Talita and Samantha that they've been disappointed in the students' lack of initiative and have received mixed reviews about them from the "Marie Claire" staff. As a result, the interns vow to step it up and set out on individual missions to impress Joanna by taking on additional assignments. When Ashley fails at a Christy Turlington research project, she weasels her way into a Kenneth Cole book launch that Samantha had already been asked to cover. Will she steal Sam's chance to shine? Meanwhile, Talita lands an opportunity to interview Rihanna but her idea quickly gets shot down when Lucy learns that she has overstepped her boundaries as an intern.

With the economy in a pinch, editor-in-chief Joanna Coles insists that her magazine's fashion team figure out a way to feature more budget-friendly options for their readers. Ashley helps Zoe pull together her shoot called "Worth the Splurge" where three real women pick one item they will splurge on this season, while Joyce asks Talita to take notes for her at the Banana Republic fashion show and a fabulous red carpet even with actress Susan Sarandon. Meanwhile, tension continues to build between Samantha and Talita leading up to an intense confrontation in the "Marie Claire" offices.

The pressure is on for the "Marie Claire" staffers when a last-minute cover shoot with singer Mandy Moore is scheduled with less than 24 hours to prepare. Also, the interns are asked to manage a huge beauty sale, but Samantha leaves Talita and Ashley hanging when she takes off to visit her boyfriend for the weekend.
