The Little Bedroom

La Petite Chambre (original)

The Little Bedroom is the story of Edmond, played by two-time César Award winner Michel Bouquet (Le Promeneur du Champ de Mars, How I Killed My Father), a man facing the loss of his youth and the ability to take care of himself. When Edmond's son must leave for Chicago, he leaves his father in the care of a nurse named Rose (Florence Loiret Caille) who, herself, has faced a major loss of her own—that of her son during childbirth—and whose husband is about to leave for New York on an extended business trip. When Rose decides to move Edmond into her own home to better care for him, the two of them begin to realize that, although they share a sense of emptiness, their newfound living situation can also be fulfilling as it brings them companionship, friendship, and ultimately hope and peace of mind. These two people, who have closed themselves off to the world, teach each other to once again open their hearts and embrace the wonder of life. Switzerland's official entry for the 83rd Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film), The Little Bedroom is the 2011 winner of the Swiss National Film Prize for Best Fiction Film and Best Screenplay.
