En París, el veterano editor Daniel (Auteuil) se encuentra con su amigo Patrick (Gérard Depardieu) que no veía hace mucho tiempo y le invita a cenar a su casa. Su amigo Patrick llega acompañado de su nueva novia Emma (Adriana Ugarte), mucho más joven que ellos dos. Daniel empieza a fantasear sobre tener una aventura con ella, mientras que su mujer Isabelle (Sandrine Kiberlain) sospecha de sus intenciones.
