"Tan Mai, Vietnam del Norte 1969" Ted Ryan, capitán de los Marines norteamericanos, y Quang Nien, su guía vietnamita, se encuentran en plenas líneas enemigas. En un poblado, Ryan y sus hombres descubren lingotes de oro ocultos en sacos de grano. En 1987, Ryan descubre que los miembros de su unidad estan siendo asesinados en extrañas circustancias, para investigar el suceso contrata al Mayor Brad Cooper "una auténtica máquina de matar".
