4. The End of the World

Feeling overwhelmed and needing to break away from the day-to-day grind and reconnect with herself, Malena packs a suitcase and books a trip to the south for the following day, leaving Andy and Ray in charge of the agency. Things get interesting after Andy invites her out for a sendoff which ends with drunk sex in the bathroom. But after Andy bails on Malena, she is forced to call Cali for a rescue pickup. Malena ends up telling Cali about her trip during a heart-to-heart, as Cali warns Malena that her troubles will follow her wherever she goes. Ray, meanwhile, decides to go to a gay bar after a string of failed online dates. Clara invites Cali to move in with her and the baby, providing Cali with the family she’s always wanted. Cali also begins to feel the benefit of therapy. At the agency, Ray finds Andy packing his stuff and forces him to come clean with Malena; but Andy only finds Marcos at the house, where he learns that Malena is on a plane to the south. After getting the news, Malena cancels her self-care trip and upon returning, she arrives at her sister’s home, but this time to live with Clara, Cali, and the baby. The group is reunited and toasts to take on whatever comes next.

Andy is in a bad mood on account of Julio’s unexpected absence while Malena arrives at a life-changing decision: it's time to sell the house. The first potential buyer turns out to be Marcos, whose presence throws Malena off and leads to confusion. Cali shares her life at a therapy session, and Clara gets angry after learning that Cali worked for Marcos. Cali tries to explain her motives, but during the conversation Clara’s water breaks and Cali must take her friend to the hospital and help her in the labor room. While Malena and an ill-tempered Andy are chatting, Malena is summoned to the hospital, where Malena and Cali eventually work together for the sake of helping Clara. In light of the experience, Cali tries to reforge her friendship with Malena. Later, Andy is rushed to the hospital after a medical emergency, and receives some difficult news: his body is rejecting the transplant and he now must decide between more treatment or death. Also, Ray has a feeling that something is going on between Andy and Malena that neither wants to admit and finally, Malena decides to sell the house to a sentimental Marcos.

Malena feels double-betrayed by the arrival of Marcos and his new assistant, Cali. Her ex and former business partner sneak away to the hotel suite where Malena and her team of planners are working on a high-level VIP art event. Cali is in a financial bind as she had to borrow money from her brother to pay back Malena and is about to be evicted. As the event is just about to begin, Ray, with Cali’s help, must handle problems with the event’s hired entertainment. Malena is bothered by Cali’s presence, which only worsens after learning that it was Cali who ended up in the suite. Cali immediately gives back the suite, but the event takes an explosive turn after Marcos sets off fireworks. Cali eventually quits after discovering Marcos’ petty act of revenge. Malena, meanwhile, is broken, stressed, and unable to calm herself after the day, requiring Andy to step in to help his friend.

Cali reappears to return the money she took from the agency, but Malena can’t forgive her and chooses to keep her at distance and cut ties with her former partner. Clara, however, continues to be Cali’s friend and protects her, as Cali finds herself jobless, broke, and struggling to maintain a false reality. As Javier has moved to the United States, Malena and Marcos have no reason to be near each other. Malena is preparing for a special wedding: her parents are renewing their wedding vows at the same venue where Malena and Marcos were married. This has Malena particularly sensitive, which is further piqued by Javier’s last-minute decision to not come home for the wedding and not even tell his mom about it. Marcos’ unexpected appearance at the wedding – via an invitation from Malena’s father – irritates Malena, but as the night goes on things get emotional and Marcos and Malena share a confusing sexual encounter that Malena instantly regrets. Malena’s quick and honest rejection of any hopes of rekindling their relationship sets Marcos on a quest for revenge. Andy, meanwhile, grapples with Julio's short-lived return.
