Die Wüste wächst, die endlose Dürre lässt die Brunnen austrocknen. Ihrem Instinkt folgend, ziehen die meisten Bewohner eines afrikanischen Dorfs nach Süden. Nur Dorflehrer Rahne hält das für falsch und geht mit seiner Familie und seinem Vieh nach Osten. Doch ihr Marsch führt sie unter brennender Sonne direkt in Feindesland.
