Als sie mit ihrer Mutter im Jahr 1964 von Paris nach Südfrankreich zieht, hat die zehnjährige Cécile Schwierigkeiten, sich an ihre neue Heimat zu gewöhnen. Sie langweilt sich und fühlt sich einsam und alleingelassen. Eines Tages ändert sich jedoch alles, als ein Zirkus im Dorf ankommt. Dort lernt Cécile ein Shetlandpony namens Poly kennen. Gemeinsam erleben die beiden ein großes und gefährliches Abenteuer.
