Frankfurt am Main, 1946. David Bermann und seine jüdischen Freunde sind dem Naziregime nur knapp entkommen und träumen jetzt wie viele von der Ausreise nach Amerika. Doch dafür brauchen sie Geld. Sie eröffnen ein Wäschegeschäft mit Direktvermartung. Das Geschäft von Haustür zu Haustür floriert und die Ausreise scheint schon zum Greifen nahe.
