Dr. Irène Frachon arbeitet als Ärztin an der Uniklinik in Brest. Als wieder einmal ein übergewichtiger Patient mit Herzklappenfehler auf dem Operationstisch liegt, vermutet Irène einen Zusammenhang mit der Einnahme von Mediator. Daraufhin veranlasst sie eine Studie mit einem eindeutigen Ergebnis. Doch die zuständigen Behörden ziehen die Seriosität der Studie in Frage und scheinen eher dem aggressiv auftretenden französischen Pharmakonzern Servier Glauben zu schenken.
