Chirurgus Johann Paul Schroth
Johann Paul Schroth ist 1713 Barbiergeselle in Berlin. Nur auf dem Schlachtfeld hat ein Mann wie er damals die Chance, seine chirurgischen Künste zu erproben. Doch Schroth lehnt es ab, dem Drängen seines Gönners Holtzendorff zu folgen und Feldscher zu werden. Als seine Frau und ihr Kind bei der Entbindung sterben, kehrt Schroth doch ins Heer zurück. Im Feldzug gegen Schweden reift seine Begabung wider Willen. Als die Berliner Charité gegründet wird, gehört Schroth zu den ersten Absolventen.
