Eli's latest visions leads him to believe someone close to him will die in a plane crash. As Eli tries to unravel the mystery of who among his friends may meet their fate on the doomed plane, he and Keith take on the case of a woman named Diane who's in need of a heart transplant, but the religious parents of a donor refuse to give her their daughter's heart because she is an atheist. Little does Eli know that the heart he is fighting for will take on greater significance. Meanwhile Taylor and Matt get engaged, and Maggie's faith in Eli is tested.

When Jordan meets room service waiter Doug Stemple, he learns Doug is yet another victim of corporate greed and decides that he and Eli will represent him. Doug's former employer, Emerson Financial, suffered losses as a result of poor decision-making on the part of its ex-CEO. Consequently Doug and hundreds of Emerson Financial employees were laid off when the company claimed it could no longer afford to pay their salaries; yet its ex-CEO received $43 million when he was dismissed. Eli realizes they must take up the case on behalf of all those who were wrongfully terminated. Meanwhile, he's is having visions of his father on a plane.

Eli takes the case of news anchor who's been removed from his job. After sleeping with Maggie, Eli faces off against her in their latest trial and realizes she's emerged as a formidable attorney. As Wethersby, Stone & Associates continues to struggle to stay afloat, Matt tries to assist his former firm - which ultimately leads to a profound decision on his part.

When a news anchor from one of the biggest media corporations loses his job, Eli, Taylor, Matt and Maggie share an awkward car ride to Sonoma to question a witness. Taylor and Matt plan a getaway before the baby arrives, only to have their plans derailed by their latest case in which they'll face off against each other. Determined to spend time together, they deceive Eli and Maggie into joining them on a road trip to Sonoma. Upon arrival, the race to retain a witness being held in a county jail ensues. First, the four lawyers must join forces to free her from jail, but the judge, an acquaintance from Matt's past, delivers a vengeful blow. As Eli and Maggie work together again, feelings between them resurface. Meanwhile, Eli, now suffering the consequences of the "Dark Truth" treatment, is plagued with not one but two brain aneurysms.

Nathan bumps Eli up from best man to minister. When Eli's latest vision has him questioning Nathan's fiancee's devotion, he is restless to learn Nate's fate and turns to a new acupuncturist willing to perform the dangerous "Dark Truth" method that will help him see the future. Keith and Eli defend a minister against discrimination, and Taylor and Matt learn there may be some complications with their unborn child.

After a few dates with Ashley Cardiff, a patient of Dr. Chen's and client of Maggie's, Eli is prepared to tell her about his gift, but is surprised by her reaction. Yearning to find out his future leads Eli to Chen's rival, where he undergoes a dangerous procedure only to discover the unfortunate circumstances of Nate and Beth's engagement. A vision of the future leads Eli to represent a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize who will one day discover cold fusion, and Taylor learns some unsettling truths about Jordan while representing him in his divorce from her stepmother.

Eli misinterprets his latest prophecy. As Eli and Keith defend Patti's daughter against drug charges, Eli believes she is innocent while Keith has his reservations. In time Eli will realize a greater meaning to his vision, one which will change his relationship with Patti forever. An ultrasound and advice from Maggie gives Matt clarity on his relationship with Taylor; with help from Maggie's new client, Matt scores two tickets to Seal's concert for him and Taylor. Sensing Eli is feeling lonely, Dr. Chen arranges a blind date for Eli with one of his patients.

Eli is having visions in which he's trapped in his father's body on Nathan's 12th birthday. The visions guide Eli to clues in a teenage boy's emancipation trial against his powerful and intimidating father, Jim Cooper - a trial where Nathan's medical expertise will prove to be vital, but threaten Nate's own career. Standing in his way are Matt and Maggie, who've been retained by Cooper, forcing the former friends and colleagues to face off against each other in court. Taylor fears the worst when confronted with the reality she must tell Matt she's pregnant with his child, and Keith avoids Patti's daughter, who he suspects is doing drugs.
5. The Humanitarian

The struggle to maintain clients and keep their new firm afloat continues for Eli and Jordan. Eli convinces Jim Cooper, a billionaire philanthropist, to let them lead the charge to start a clinical trial testing the efficacy of medicinal marijuana as a cure for MS in children, namely Cooper's son. But Eli learns Cooper's son doesn't want to be a part of the trial, placing Eli in a moral dilemma. Keith represents Patti's daughter after she's arrested for DUI, and Matt and Maggie work to expose a mole within Jordan and Eli's new firm who is helping Posner/Klein lure clients away.

In the aftermath of their law firm's split, Eli and Jordan struggle to retain associates. They must face the financial repercussions of Jordan's coup; the firm's largest clients opt to go with rival firm Posner/Klein. At Taylor's urging, Eli persuades Matt to help him on a case involving a Homeland Security arrest to show him how rewarding pro-bono law can be, and convince him to stay with the new firm that Jordan and Eli are building. Eli's latest vision reveals the truth about Maggie's fiancé, which ultimately leads to a defining decision about their relationship.

Eli tries to convince Taylor the search and rescue team are looking for her father in the wrong place, but she refuses to believe him, setting off a legal showdown between the two former lovers.
