But they’ll need to fill it, a feat that would be hugely symbolic for a rapper who grew up in the Northern neighborhoods. While they’re preparing for the show, Mateo goes through a terrible ordeal when the mother of his child suddenly dies. Devastated, he must lean on Djamali who proves to be a rock for the group. The day of the concert finally comes: the stadium is sold out. That evening, over 60,000 people attend Soprano’s show. Backstage, all his friends are moved to tears. For the first time, his father attends one of his concerts, as does a distinguished guest whose presence deeply moves Soprano.

The video, made using images shot with a phone, is published directly on YouTube. The result: huge buzz with more than 100 million views. The song is a hit on all fronts and Soprano finally makes it out of the ghetto in which he’d been imprisoned. Things finally seem to be looking up when, suddenly, tragedy strikes the group. 1. Kids From the Ghetto
2022 - Season 1
Saïd M’Roumbaba, aka Soprano, has grown up in Marseille’s northern neighborhoods – some of the poorest in France. Son of Comorian immigrants, he is educated in both a French public school, which gives him a taste for words, and a Koranic school, where he discovers his voice. Irresistibly drawn to rap, the music genre emerging during his childhood, the young Saïd forms a group with his cousins - the Psy 4 de la Rime - much to the chagrin of his father who is worried by this all-consuming passion. In the 90s, Soprano meets his three best friends: Mateo, Djamali, and Mej. Faced with racism and a lack of perspective in their life in the neighborhood, they are profoundly marked by the French national team’s victory in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which offers a new source of hope with the consecration of Zinédine Zidane.
