13. The Bad Guy

After being stabbed by Nola, the badly wounded Simon is secretly taken to the Imperial to recuperate. While there, Nick forces Simon to reveal how he is controlling Nola and why he had her prosecute Letitia for Dutch’s murder. Entanglements arise with Nick and the pregnant Karen’s budding romance when it is revealed that his ex-wife Lisa is writing a tell-all book about the Darlings. Nola bids a tearful goodbye to Jeremy while she goes off to get her brother; but Simon's nurse, Daphne, hopes to heal his broken heart. In other developments, Patrick wants his involvement with Dana Whatley to go to the next level, but that is not something her husband, Congressman Whatley, agreed to. And Brian, who is still sharing Nick’s apartment with him, is frustrated with its décor and decides to give it an extreme home makeover.
12. The Unexpected Arrival

Now that Simon has jilted Karen, she and Nick profess their love to one another and she reveals to him that she is pregnant with Simon's baby. Meanwhile, a celebration is planned at the Darling mansion where Simon and Tripp plan to celebrate their new partnership and go public with their bio-fuel patent. In other developments, Simon picks Jeremy to pull off his fake murder, but Nola thinks it’s a trap. She is desperate to save her brother, but she fears that in return, Simon will hurt Jeremy. Meanwhile, Andrea learns of Brian's plans to cheat on her with his ex-wife and throws him out of the Imperial, forcing Brian to shack up with Nick. Patrick meets again with Congressman Whatley (John Schneider) who hit on him, but this time it is the congressman's wife, Dana (Krista Allen), who is making moves on Patrick.

When Nick learns that Lisa has taken KiKi away to Maryland on his weekend with her, he borrows the Darlings' jet to go get her back. He is surprised to see Karen and Brian are also along for the flight. Karen is on a mission to visit a sperm bank in order to have a child and Brian has planned a secret romantic rendezvous with his ex-wife. Now a partner with Simon Elder, Tripp asks Patrick to try to reverse Congressman Charles Whatley’s (John Schneider) standing against Simon's bio-fuel that Tripp had helped sway many years before. Simon tells Nola that he suspects that Jeremy’s amnesia isn't real.

The Darlings are away celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. Back at their New York mansion, Clark the chauffeur must appease a relentless and sexy reporter by setting straight Darling rumors regarding family betrayal, possible criminal cover-ups and murder accusations. His version of the way things happened include Patrick's subpoena to Tripp over his association with the lowlife Fantini brothers, Karen's anger over the intrusion of Simon's beautiful ex-wife, Ama (Gina Torres), and Juliet's (Samaire Armstrong) adventures with her lover, Kai. Meanwhile, under house arrest, Letitia holds the Ferragamo fashion show at the Darling mansion and one of the socialite attendees (Donna Mills) has some angry words for the family matriarch.
9. The Organ Donor

The Darlings deal with the aftermath of the shooting spree at Patrick's inauguration by Ellen's brother, Chase. In the confusion that followed, Jeremy got amnesia, Chase was shot and someone was killed. Simon, Nick and the Darlings all have their reasons for not seeing Chase come out of his coma, but Chase's wife, Janine, isn't ready to pull the plug. Meanwhile, the newly-divorced Nick and Lisa discuss custody arrangements for KiKi, and Brian finds himself back in the pulpit while dealing with his relationship with Andrea.

Filled with love for Carmelita, newly-elected Senator Patrick Darling goes against Nick and Tripp's advice and invites her to his inauguration. Meanwhile Chase defies his agreement with the Darlings and threatens to go public with his accusation that Patrick murdered his sister; Jeremy finds out that Simon has control of Nola's little brother; as Andrea's health dims, Brian promises God anything to make her well again; and Karen goes to Nick's apartment to make amends with him, but is confronted by a gun-wielding intruder.

As Karen excitedly prepares for her wedding day, she is convinced that this fifth marriage - to family nemesis Simon Elder -- is the one that will end in happily ever after. But Tripp is still suspicious of Simon's real motives and wants Nick to make one last-ditch effort to keep the wedding from happening. Lisa hopes taking Jeremy to the wedding will make Nick jealous. In other developments, Patrick hires Jeremy to join his senate team, against Nola's protestations; Brian finds himself drawing closer to Andrea as her illness worsens; and when Letitia sees Tripp paying too much attention to their houseguest, Wrenn, she realizes that this pretty, young woman has overstayed her welcome.

Letitia hits a young, pretty bicyclist with her car. To avoid another public scandal, Tripp invites Wrenn (Sarah Carter) to recuperate at the Darling mansion, where she charms a few but makes others suspicious. The claws come out during a catty showdown between Lisa and Karen over Nick. Meanwhile fired prosecutor Nola Lyons delights Patrick with her aggressive ways as his new Chief of Staff, but Tripp and the spurned Jeremy are less than pleased by her presence; and, much to Brian's surprise, Andrea refuses to fight her cancer by entering a medical trial.

While constantly being challenged in court by prosecutor Nola Lyons, Nick is facing an uphill battle defending Letitia in the murder case. But the situation changes quickly after Nick discovers a dirty little secret about Nola. Later on he learns by chance some surprising news about Lisa from Joel Madden, one of the attendees at her art gallery opening. Meanwhile, Karen asks Nick to tell Tripp that she's marrying family nemesis Simon Elder, Tripp attempts to wield his influence over Patrick in choosing his chief of staff, and Brian and Andrea learn some shocking news after a visit to the doctor.
