Saïd M’Roumbaba, aka Soprano, has grown up in Marseille’s northern neighborhoods – some of the poorest in France. Son of Comorian immigrants, he is educated in both a French public school, which gives him a taste for words, and a Koranic school, where he discovers his voice. Irresistibly drawn to rap, the music genre emerging during his childhood, the young Saïd forms a group with his cousins - the Psy 4 de la Rime - much to the chagrin of his father who is worried by this all-consuming passion. In the 90s, Soprano meets his three best friends: Mateo, Djamali, and Mej. Faced with racism and a lack of perspective in their life in the neighborhood, they are profoundly marked by the French national team’s victory in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which offers a new source of hope with the consecration of Zinédine Zidane.
