Painting A Portrait In Gouache

Gouache is a medium that combines characteristics of oils and watercolor. Like watercolor it is water soluble and a painting can be built up with a succession of washes but also like oils it can be laid down opaquely and successive layers of paint can be used to paint over and cover what is underneath.
