Frustrated by Jack’s insubordination, and his blossoming relationship with Belle, Sneed challenges Jack to a duel. As they count out their paces and turn and shoot, someone is shot by a stray bullet.

With Captain Gaines out of town, Dodger and Fagin break into the barracks in the hopes of stealing the soldiers’ pay which totals 500 sovereigns. In their pursuit of the bounty, they discover Darius’ secret. With the help of Tim’s invention, Dodger sets out to con Darius, hoping to save his hand and his medical career. After losing to Darius at cards, Jack is ordered to pay the huge sum of 26 pounds or lose one of his hands. With the arrival of Fagin, Dodger’s pickpocketing past is threatened to be exposed. Knowing Dodger is desperate for money, Fagin lures him back for one final sting. When a boy is accidentally hit by a carriage, Dodger meets Lady Belle, the Governor’s daughter, who is obsessed with medicine. To save the boy, Belle leads Jack and Fagin to Government House where the upper class have gathered for a ball. As Dodger operates, pioneering the use of anaesthetic, Fagin welcomes the distraction and works the heist.
