Thelma è sconvolta quando suo figlio dodicenne Louis viene investito da un tir e entra in coma. Trova poi la lista dei desideri che il bambino aveva scritto sul suo diario e scopre così il suo lato avventuroso e creativo. Nella speranza di aiutare il figlio a uscire dal coma, Thelma decide di esaudire tutti i suoi desideri. Dal Giappone al Portogallo, Thelma intraprende un percorso che le dà nuovi motivi per cui vivere e per ricongiungersi con suo figlio.
