Mentre Jean, un conservatore, fa campagna per essere rieletto sindaco di una piccola città nel nord della Francia, Edith, sua moglie da 40 anni, gli rivela un segreto che non può più reprimere: in cuor suo, lei è - ed è sempre stato - un uomo. All'inizio Jean pensa che stia scherzando, ma capisce subito che Edith è determinata alla transizione. Sia il suo matrimonio che la sua campagna stanno per subire un serio cambiamento.
