Dybt inde i Palombias jungle bor det unikke, langhalede, gepardplettede pelsdyr spirillen. Tv-reporteren Dan Geraldo sendes til landet for at interviewe en indianerhøvding og redde sin karriere. I stedet havner Dan og hans guide - en uærlig, men hjertensgod lokal dyrlæge - i kløerne på en diktator og en gal botaniker, som vil fange spirillen for at udvinde en ungdomsserum af dyrets yndlingsorkideer.
